How to improve

Three mistakes that cost English Standard marks every year

Answering the unseen section with feature-spotting. Each short answer needs the technique, the evidence and the effect, sized to the marks on offer.
Writing a paragraph with no link back to the question. The final sentence of a body paragraph is where most Standard responses gain or lose a band.
Using vague evaluative words — “powerful”, “interesting”, “effective” — instead of naming what the reader is actually made to think or feel.
